Parite is one nasty virus that will infect all the exe files on the computer. The only thing that I know that fixes it is Sav32Cli . It is run in a pre-windows state. It has worked for me in the past.

    Good luck!

    EDIT:
Its been a while since I last ran Sav32Cli, but it appears that it is now run directly from Windows, and not in Dos.

Just make sure that any scan will not erase the original exe file. You want to repair the file, not erase it.

    Win32.PariteB

    Thanks.
I intend to scrub my Hard Disk making it spring-clean because it seems that all the exe files have been infected. I will do a new installation of XP and thank God I have backed-up all my files which I will also reinstall.

I have gone to the sites that were suggested and I have downloaded Panda Quick remover.

I will change the antivirus I that was installed because it failed and was even infected. I think I will go for Panda.

Thanks once again. Any more advice will still be appreciated.

Thanks, usil & poppy4 for your assistance. I used Sav32Cli.It ran in Windows. I also used the Panda Quick Remover. For the files that could not be healed I used AVG Free to delete them. The PC rebooted smoothly. I even got through my reading schedule without any hitch. I have to install Microsoft Office 2003 which I had earlier removed. I would also do a repair of my XP files and add another Hard Disk for my Music files.

All I have to do now is to have an updated anti-virus always running. Which would you suggest now?

On a lighter note: as a Virtual Med Student, I let my PC know that I am a PC Physician in training and that my Professors, usil and poppy4 are the best in virtual space!!!

Thanks again, while I wait for your antivirus recommendation.

    You're welcome artkaye..
I use 'avast' as my full time a/v program that runs in the background. I also use 'a-squared' to double check.....and when I scan with a-squared I stop 'avast' from running in the background. Running two a/v's at the same time can cause problems....so run one at a time. I update them daily and also scan with them daily. There are links in my sig for both, and they have free versions.
Also a firewall is a must..You don't want to be on line without a firewall, so use XP's firewall to go on line to download the programs you want/need.
I like Zone Alarm free, but there are some other good free firewalls available, as you will read here in the forums....
it is not recommended running two firewalls at the same time. XP's firewall only stops incoming, whereas Zone Alarm and others stop traffic in and out..which is important in case you are unknowingly infected with malware that wants to 'phone home', so to speak.
btw my signature contains all the programs I use for protection/security, you might check some of them out.....any further questions or assistance , post back your questions.

Happy to hear it solved your problem artkaye. As for an AV recommendation, I use Nod32 and couldn't be happier. Its not free, but its money well spent.

Poppy, A Squared is not an anti-virus (its a trojan remover), and unless you are using the paid for version, it does not have any real time monitoring, and as such, there is no problem using that and Avasts' real time monitoring at the same time. In fact, you are only putting your computer in more danger while disabling the real time monitoring.

Hi usil.... thanks for the heads-up on a-squared. Guess I'll have to use another a/v to be a backup virus check. I really appreciate the info on the distinction between them...

No problem Poppy. Avast is a pretty decent AV.
If you are looking for a backup scanner, than any of the on-line scanners will do.
As for A Squared, its a good program against trojans.

Thanks usil and poppy. I got to other posts and have settled for BitDefender Pro with Avast or Nod32 as a back-up check.

The problem is now resolved and I have updated my knowledge in these matters.

May you all be richly blessed.

Just don't install two anti viruses at once.
