Serious error message & system restarts (moved from WinXP forum)

Hi, I'm still having the BSOD problems as discussed in this thread. I eventually took my PC to my local repairer who had a look at it, checking out the hardware... RAM, temps etc... all OK. He couldn't sove the problem but reckoned a system reinstall was the next step. I'm not convinced that this is the answer, although it wouldn't do any harm to start afresh, but as I'm a bit unsure how I'd go doing that and he wanted AUD$150 to do it, I hung back.

Anyway, as mentioned earlier in this thread, I notice that the BSODs always happen when the PC is first started up in the morning when the PC is cold. After the first successful startup I have no trouble until the next morning, even tho I may reboot as many times as I like.

So, in my great technological ability (actually, total ignorance!) I thought why not warm it up with a hairdryer and see what happens. (I thought "At worst I can only wreck it and my wife would say, "Well, perhaps you'd better buy something better.") Anyway, I've done this (warmed it with a hairdryer) for the last 5 startups (each after an overnight stop) and it's started perfectly every time.

As I'm not keen to go thru this warming up process every startup until I buy another PC I wonder if anyone has any bright ideas as to what needs to be done? Could it be a cracked solder joint somewhere? Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Heat? ... that is strange. But yes, I supposed it could be a loose/cracked solder joint/trace, or maybe something not seated into a socket all the way (loose connection)?
