    PC runs a little hot...

Hi everyone! I am currently using a Gateway 614GE that I upgraded. Since I added all of the extra stuff, my PC seems to be running hot. My fan speeds also seem to be pretty low. Here is what Everest has to say:
    Motherboard-99 degrees F
    CPU-95 degrees F
    1st HDD-104 degrees F
    2nd HDD-104 degrees F

    CPU Fan-2801 RPM (!)
    Case Fan-2220 RPM (!)
I know they should be at least double that.

My question is: Since my motherboard seems to be a standard Micro ATX form factor, can I simply buy a new case & better fans to cool this thing off a bit? I also want to replace the PSU. My current one is a 300W Bestec (never heard of 'em). I want to get a 500w name brand PSU that I know will last. Is it possible to turn a Gateway into a generic?

I put a lot of good parts into this machine, and I don't want them to get heat damage. Thanks in advance!

Those are not all that bad for temps. Right now my 3700 San Diego is running at 32c/ 89f and the system temp is 30c/86f. You might want to give the fans a good cleaning or consider new ones if they are getting bad. The cpu fan seems way slow to me. If your case can handle 120mm fans I would opt for them as they move a fair amount of air at a lower rpm, making less noise. One on the front drawing air in and one on the back pushing it out. I have seven 80mm case fans two of those are Thermaltake Smart case II but they are a bit noisy. I run them at full tilt while gamming and turn them down when not working the system. My other system has an Antec case with two 120mm case fans and its so much quieter. I don't know what your system specs are but 500watts might be over kill. A good 350 Watt to 550 watt is all most systems need. If its a good psu with stable rails (voltage&amps) 350 is good in most case's. Antec, Fortron, Thermaltake, Enermax and a few others are good brands to look at. I am running Antec (550w in this 350w other) in both my home systems and have built many with Thermaltake.

The fans are clean, I spray them with airduster every few weeks. Would it be ok to use a generic case, though? This Gateway box dosen't seem to have room for more than one fan.

I like Antec and Thermaltake cases. A generic case would do if it has enough mounts for fans. I would at least look for a case with intake and exhaust fans.

    CPU 50 °C (122 °F)

    Motherboard 38 °C (100 °F)

My hdds range from 32C for a low to 40C for the high.

So temperature wise, you are in fine shape.

For the new case, do make sure it can use those 120 case fans. Like me, you will love the quiet operation.

Thanks for the help guys. As long as those temps are ok, I'm just going to save up my money for a little while. I'll keep ckecking everest to make sure it dosen't run any hotter.
