    upgrading to windows 2003

    I'm confused about something.
I have a single DC windows 2000 standard. This is the only DC on the network.
I just installed a stand alone 2003 standard server. I want to dcpromo the W2003 server.
I did the adprep on the windows 2000 server, then I uninstalled the windows 2000 administration tools.
    Installed hotfixes, etc.
    then ran winnt32.exe /checkupgradeonly.

    No known issues.
Is this correct, all the AD tools: AD USers & computers, etc are gone, is that because of the 2000 administration tools?
Then I dcpromo'd the windows 2003 server, and things got whacked. I couldn't check the W2K machine because it had no admin tools on it.

    What am I doing wrong?
    Can someone help me.
    thanks
I checkd out MS Document #325379
How to Upgrade Windows 2000 DCs to Windows Server 2003, and followed their steps.

You didn't need to remove the tools from the 2000 box; that's only needed if you're upgrading the Windows 2000 server itself to 2003.

However, you can use the administration tools on the 2003 server to manage the 2000 box as well. Even better, install the 2003 version of the tools on your PC and manage both from there -- download and description.
Safe computing is a habit, not a toolkit.
