two cpu's..which one?

I had pretty much decided on the AMD Sempron 3400+ Palermo 754 socket with 256MB L2....but I just saw the Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 754 with 512 MB L2...at Newegg...the reviews were heavily in favor of the Athlon 64 3000+....especially for o/c'ing ability ( which I had not really considered but it might be fun to do). The comparison charts at Tomshardware actually have the Sempron ahead in most tests except for one or two...SO....what do ya'll think? Go with the Athlon 64 3000+?? The Venice core got tons of high marks from the reviewers...it's in some of the 939's....have I already talked myself into it? !! My m/b will be the Abit NV8....

I wouldn't even give it 10 seconds thought - I'd go for the Athlon any day of the week..

I don't quite get that, may be down to lack of sleep, lol , but the Venice is 939, so that 754 board wouldn't be compatible.

EDIT: I'd go for that too.

I will go with the Athlon 64 3000+ Venice. I am glad that I took some time to decide on my parts...do lots of reading...especially the reviews ( taken with a certain amount of salt), and especially...especially...running this info by all of you. The thread concerning the PCI-Express stuff was very informative, too. I would like to have been able to bump up to the 939 series but just had to draw the money line somewhere...but I did go for an Enermax 485W psu...the knowledge and recommendation of which I have picked up from lots of reading here...thanks...

Ohhh, didn't know they did the Venice 754, cool, no probs for the recommendations. Nice PSU too.
