Cant get access to all files
All disks are configured for complete file sharing. Strangely I can get access to some files, but not to others. For example I can open any files on disk C: except the Windows and program files, and to the second internal drive, but not to the external drive.
Any hint to explain this?

Hello Andre,
It isn't a very good idea to share the system files in the Windows directory. However, I'm not sure about the second internal drive. That's how Windows XP works when using Simple File Sharing. It doesn't allow sharing the Documents and Settings, Program Files, or Windows folders.
You can share subfolders within those folders. You can share "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express" and access that folder from another computer on the network.
Since you have Windows XP Professional, you can permanently disable Simple File Sharing, which removes those sharing restrictions:
1. Open My Computer and click Tools | Folder Options | View.
2. Scroll to the end of the advanced settings.
3. Un-check "Use simple file sharing (recommended).

Hello and thank you ecross. I have just done on both computers what you told me to do and it should have been as simple as that, but no, it still does not work. That's strange. No change yet. Networking is tough to harness.

If the files you cannot access are just files in the Windows and Program Files folder then check the folder for NTFS permissions. With Simple File Sharing disabled, Windows XP uses advanced file sharing. You need to create an identical username and password that matches both computers.

O.K. I will look into that. I had not seen there were more fields to fill in in advance file sharing. It could work when it is done. How do you check for NTFS permissions?

This looks like a complete guide. It should bring all the answers. I will let you know if the problem is solved. Thank you Eric.
