HID Input Service not working

When I attempt to start the HID Input Service in Windows XP Professional (SP2), I get the following error message:

"Could not start the HID Input Service on Local Machine"
"Error 2: The system could not find the file specified"

I have went into the registry and made sure that ServiceDll was inside of all of the hidserv keys. I don't think this was the problem.

ServiceDll registry value was %SystemRoot%\System32\hidserv.dll

I can't use my media keys on my new Logitech G15 keyboard until I get this service running. Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Perhaps this dll needs to be re registered. There is a way, but I don't know what to tell you to do. Someone else does and me responding to your question will bump this up to the top and then perhaps that person will see your request.

To try PL's suggestion, go to Start|Run|type: regsvr32 (OS Drive/Partition letter, e.g. "C:\Windows\System32\hidserv.dll" (With quotes)

This did not work. An error dialog appeared with "DllRegisterServer entry point could not be found".

sounds like the file no longer exists...
try downloading it
http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-.../download.html

or getting it from the CD, there is some command to check all needed files or soemthing

Where would I place files? I've already tried replacing hidserv.dll in System32 from the one on my CD. This did not work. The files are not missing as far as I can tell, I've always had an hidserv.dll file in my System32 directory.

Any other solutions? Thanks a bunch guys.

Have you tried running sfc /scannow? This fixes any files that are/have become corrupt replacing them as it goes. If you haven't tried this yet. Go to Start>Run and have your xp cd handy, then type sfc /scannow Making sure there is a space between c and /.

Is the 'Human interface device service' running?
Go to start|run|type services.msc
If it's running and still not working you maybe have to reinstall the hidserv
Go to c:\windows\inf|find hidserv.inf|rightclick chose install.

I had already found this and tried it before posting, it didn't work. Thank you though.

I have done a clean install of windows. This seems to be the only way to fix it. My hard drive had some bad clusters that obviously had system files on it. I ran my HDD Diagnostic utility to close-off the clusters from being writable and simply reinstalled windows.
