[RESOLVED] Ad-Aware for 95.
Could someone on this board be so kind as to zip up a copy of their install folder for Ad-aware and email it to me? As my roommate wont let me install ad-aware on his machine and then move the install folder. He thinks it will corrupt his machine or something. Go figure.
Almost forgot. My Email is ...deleted.

Problems:- According to Lavasoft, (the creators of Ad-Aware), Ad-Aware does not work with Windows 95
Ad-Aware Personal
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Requirements - Processor: P166
- RAM: Operating system + 24 MB
- Browser: Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher
- Operating system platforms: Windows 98/98se/Me/NT4 Workstation/NT4 Server/2000 Pro/2000 Server/XP Home/XP Pro/ XP 64-Bit Edition/Terminal Services
- Upon installation, Ad-Aware creates several Windows Registry Keys that are specific to your setup and installation requirements.
- The size of the Zip would be ~6.5MB. Many ISPs/Email Servers only allow 1-2 MB attachments.

A31Chris--It is not a good idea to post your email address on VDr or any other forum. By doing that, it can be harvested by spammers.
Suggest you edit your and delete the email address in the above post. Since this question seems to have been answered, for the future, if you cannot get some info by posting in a thread, solicit contact either by Private Messages or email through VDr.

The minimum Windows 98 specifications seems to be nothing more than M$ pressuring.
Ad-Aware Free v 1.0x works on 95 too!
Thanks anyways guys.

I guess no one read the info on the link. That person started with 1.04 and it updated just fine to the latest version.

You don't have to use the AdAware GUI to update your definitions file.
On this page:
http://www.lavasoft.de/
on the right-hand side, look for "Current definition file." It's a zip file. Download it, unzip it, and it will give you a complete brand-new DEFS.REF file. Just replace the old DEFS.REF file with the new one.
If you're a member of one of those "program update notification services," they'll send you an e-mail every time a new version comes out. I use:

OK. But that's just the definitions. I'm looking for the WHOLE Ad-Aware engine install file.

OK, here's an update. Poppy I believe it was, sent me the install program for Ad-aware which came in at 3.8 mb. The install program done what it has done of late with Ad-aware and detected Windows 95 and just did absolutely nothing.
To make long story short, Poppy resent the folder that is created after the Ad-aware install program runs. It measures in at like 9mb. I dunno how you did it Poppy since you said your email only allows you to transfer max 5mb. Mine does too. However, it seems I can recieve far larger files than I can send. Go figure.
I then just ran the program straight from the folder I was sent bypassing any need to use the installer program.
Ad-Aware SE Personal Build 1.064r1 is now UP AND RUNNING fine on my Windows 95 system. Thank you Poppy!!

You're Welcome.
for the sake of litening the upload I didn't send the Lavasoft folder that it was in after the install....so you might want to create it...in your Programs.... it is the...Lavasoft.... folder....might make a difference for updates...don't know for sure, but as I say, that's the way it was after the install.
...as for my ISP..I took a chance, so..guess I was wrong about the 5MB....gotta contact them as now I'm curious.

I don't think the Lavasoft folder itself would of made any size difference as it's pretty much just virtual isn't it? It didn't have anything in it besides the Ad-aware folder did it?
I don't know as of yet if it will make any difference. I'll creat the Lavasoft folder just to be sure.
My ISP(well actually just the Juno Email service) lets me know when I exceed their 5 some mb limit for sending stuff out. They will let me push it a bit farther but not much. Not 4mbs worth.

Should I mark this thread as resolved? How do I do that? Or does a mod do that?
