can't hear the Windows sounds
I can't hear the Windows .wav sounds in the usual way, i.e. when Windows starts, but I can when I open them in the windows/media folder. How come ? I use windows xp. I don't think it has anything to do with the soundcard since the sounds are audible in the second case but it is a terratec 5.1 fun wave
Thank you for any help.

Andre, Go to the link below and click on the " Where did my Sounds go?" icon with the ? mark on it. You'll find some possible solutions.

I thinks it is just one of 'those' quirks you learn to live with. In the 6 mos that I've used XP Pro....on a dell laptop, when starting up the sounds play as usual for 60% of the time......all others are a-ok.
