    windows shut down problem

Hello, I have a problem with windows ME shutting down. My problem started when i downloaded the trial version of nod32 anti virus software, the computer would go through the motions of shutting down only to either hang with just the wallpaper showing or half the screen go black the other half showing the wallpaper or a "frequency out of range" box appears. I unistalled nod32 and downloaded kaspersky but i still have problems shutting down although not as often. i have zone alarm 6 (free version) installed..
    any ideas?

    window shut down problem

    Hi billycasper

A GREAT putter..watched him many times around San Diego area..

    Try this...

    Boot in SAFE mode.
Right click any open desktop area
Choose properties>settings>advanced> set to adapter default>OK
Reduce Desktop Area slider setting one notch..ie. from 1024x768 to 800x600
    Ok out
Reboot normal and see if you can enter display properties to reset your wallpaper and schemes

If no joy post back so some other ideas can be explored..
