    Resolved [RESOLVED] PCI-Express Woes

    Does anyone know if there are any special installation procedures for using PCI Express?

    We got 6 new machines this week from Gateway and this is my first look at PCI Express. The machines in question are Gatewways E-4300 (P4, 3.2 Ghz...... dual 150 gig SATA's...SWEET..a waste but sweet).
    First, we blow of the Gateway install with our own XP SP2 setups whihc leaves the Chipset, Video, Audio, and NIC drivers to install. No problem, Gateway supplies the disc.
    Video and audio install with no hitch and the NIC in question is an onboard Marvel (never heard of them) Modelxxx8050. Also on this disk are the PCI-E install programs so I run both of them with no reported errors.
    Device Manager reports no issues after reboot, NIC card receives the proper DHCP addressing and gateway information from the DC but will not connect to the internet.
    I know it's something simple so what did I miss?

    Sometimes the NIC will not install the first time. Also doublecheck check for an updated driver. (And are the NICS compatable with XP?)

    Make sure the network cable is properly connected, might even try a new one.
    I have had some connetors go bad.
    Can you ping the router?

    Okay, back to the basics.
    If I can get an IP Address showing the router address, the cable has to be good and yes the NICS are compatible with XP, these are brand new machines.
    There seems to be some conflicting infomration on the Gateway support page about MOBO downloads (I guess these are their chip set downloads).
    We have six of these machines, one that I left the OS in tact on can get out, the one I blew out the OS, wiped the drive , and put my unattended disc to, can not see the internet, even thought it gets a legit address. I'm going to try and leave the Gateway driver disc alone and match drivers from downloads from their site and see what happens.

    I had major issues with drivers for the Marvell onboard NIC on my work system. Oddly enough, the drivers I got from Windows Update have actually been the best.

    Well boys, it turns out the NIC on the MOBO was bad. I installed another PCI NIC and off she went. So much for 8 hours wasted.
