floppy drive
earlier today everything was fine. now, when i try to boot from a floppy disc, i get a lot of loud whirring sounds but no booting. when i am in windows, all of my floppy discs make loud whirring sounds then i get a message saying that my discs arent formatted. after formatting i can open the discs window and drag and drop files. but i cant create a bootable disc. well, they will not boot anyway. my bios settings scan for the floppy as the first boot device. what is happenning please?

themanwhowas--I assume you were previously able to boot from this floppy disk.
This reference has some ideas on the whirring, etc.

But nothing about booting from the floppy. Maybe if you cure the whirring, the floppy will become bootable again.

Your floppy drive has died. They are so cheap that it isn't worth even attempting to repair one, even if it's possible, which it usually isn't. I'd just replace it.
