how to instal win95 without cd-rom drive
hi,
i have got a laptop with a empty hard drive, and now i have to re-install win 95, but i don't have a cd-rom drive. I do have my own network (utp), and me laptop has got a pcmcia networkcard (utp), i've also read 0that there are 'dos'programma'' witch can stream data.
Any advice would be appreciated.

You can use the DOS version of laplink
But you are going to need a cdrom if you intend to install any additional software other than 95 on your laptop. Everything comes on cdrom these days. You would probably be well served to purchase one

Keep it simple!
In the beginning there was the command line

thanks PCSolutions,
that's good information, but where can i get laplink.
And about that cdrom, you're right, and i thought of that also. and came with the solution to use the laptop in my network, and share the cdrom player of my own comp.

Here's the how-to that I emailed to someone else this morning:
First, you'll need two things - 1) a laplink type parallel port cable and 2) Interlnk.exe and Intersvr.exe from DOS 6.2x
Connect both computers with the laplink cable.
Desktop:
Copy the two Interlink files into the C:\Windows\Command directory. Using Sysedit (Start - Run - Sysedit), add the following line to the Config.sys file:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\INTERLNK.EXE
Copy the files from the \Win95 directory on the Win95 CD (copy only the files, you won't need any sub-directories) to an empty directory on the hard drive - let's use C:\Win95 here.
Copy the INTERSVR.EXE file to your Win95 boot disk (or whichever boot disk you're using to start the laptop).
Reboot the computer. As the system is booting, repeatedly press F8 as soon as you hear the "beep" - just keep tapping the F8 key until you see the Startup Menu. Choose to boot to the Command Prompt Only.
Laptop:
The following assumes the laptop hard drive has been formatted and is bootable - if not, use the following command:
FORMAT C: /S
Boot the laptop with the boot disk that has Intersvr.exe on it. Once it finishes booting, type INTERSVR and press Enter. Go back to the desktop system and type INTERLNK and press Enter.
You should see a listing of which drive(s) have been "mapped" and what the drive letters are - I'll use drive letter E: here to indicate the laptop's hard drive. Now, copy the contents of the C:\Win95 directory to the laptop hard drive:
(At the desktop)
MD E:\WIN95
COPY C:\WIN95\*.* E:\WIN95
Once the copy has completed, use these commands on the laptop:
ALT/F4 to exit Intersvr
CD WIN95
SETUP
This will start the Win95 installation.
Before you reboot the desktop, you'll need to remove or make the Interlnk.exe command a remark. Type EDIT CONFIG.SYS and press Enter. In the Config.sys file, either delete the Interlnk.exe command or remark it by placing an REM at the beginning of the line:
REM DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\INTERLNK.EXE
You can now reboot the desktop normally. Once you have Win95 installed on the laptop, you can use the laplink cable to transfer files between the two systems using Direct Cable Connection. For more info on setting up and troubleshooting DCC, check out this web site:

That should be all it takes, I don't think I've forgotten anything.
