what is Map Network Drive for?

What is the purpose of using Map Network Drive?

Hi AVA,
The short answer is that you use this feature to access a drive on another machine that you are on the same network with. That is, you might map the, say, G drive on another machine so that it becomes your E drive.

Limerick's reply is a bit confusing.
The true "short answer" is, the only purpose of mapping a network drive is that it appears in My Computer as if it were just another drive in YOUR computer, such that you don't have to navigate to the drive via Network Neighborhood, thus, saving you time. If you check the "reconnect at logon" option, your computer automatically tries to communicate with, and establish a connection to the drive in the other computer when you boot YOUR computer, thus eliminating the red X over that drive (and speeding your access up) when you first try to access it from the My Computer icon.
