pdf's have reverted to Word docs

That's what the custoomer claims. I've never heard of any file spontaneously changing it's format, esp without asking the user.

Is it possible? What about docs that were once converted to pdf and the trial version of the pdf reader just expired?

Could something like that have happened?

It's more likely that they changed the file association for .pdf to MS Word.

Sounds fishy. PDFs don't just become Word docs. Maybe they're confused, or maybe something else is going on. Did they accidentally save a new version as a .doc? Check their file history if possible. The expired trial thing is a long shot, but I guess anything's possible.
