Seagate Free Agent GO
.exe missing on my external hard drive. Seagate website is "useless". They state that they no longer support this drive but I've been using it for many years without problems. But now...the hard drive is no longer identified by my backup software and I've tried to reinstall the software (which I believe is the problem) but the .exe is no longer on the drive nor available from Seagate. Would appreciate if I should just throw the drive in the garbage or is there a way I can get the .exe back?

What backup software are you using? If you are just syncing files/folders, there are other apps you could use.

Never heard of it. The closest thing I could find when I google "seagate backup maker" is the Seagate Toolkit.

What kind of backups do you need? If you are just copying files, there are apps that can sync files/folders:

Backup Maker is an ASCOMP software which I program on my C:\drive. This allows me to backup my designated file and folders directly to my Seagate Free Agent GO external F:\ drive. The problem is that I am no longer able to backup to my Seagate external drive. This has nothing to do with the Backup Maker.

Then why are you asking about a .exe file?
.exe missing on my external hard drive.
If you are having problems with the drive, you should run a Seatools diagnostics test on it.

Does Windows Explorer still see the Seagate drive? Does it show up with a drive letter?

I did run a Seatools diagnostics test as recommended by Midknyte and it indicated that it failed but I ran it again, and all "passed" . I then executed my Ascomp Backup Maker and for whatever reason, my Seagate external drive appears to be ok now Thanks to all who submitted their suggestions.

Hmm. I don't like that it failed the diags. Maybe run it again in a week or so. No sense in backing up your data to a drive you don't trust.

That is the best advice for this Christmas season!
