    Motherboard question

I wanted to get the Asus Rog Strix Z390-E (because mine crapped out) but I'm in Mexico and Amazon US doesn't ship here. On Amazon.com.mx the same board is $700 USD! Why get the same thing as the one that crapped out? Because I don't know much about hardware and if I got the same thing I could just move everything to the new board and be sure it would work.

Now I'm looking at the MSI MAG Z390 TOMAHAWK. ($320) It's got Z390 in the name, it looks similar and PC Part Picker lists it as compatible with my chip which is i9-9900K. It also takes the same memory G.Skill Ripjaws.

Am I screwing up somewhere? Can anyone pass comment?

Any problems or special tools needed to move the chip?

    Thanks - rev

Another option would be to get the board you want and have it shipped to someone that you trust in the U.S. and have them ship it to you.

The MSI board should work with your existing hardware, provided the BIOS it ships with supports your CPU and memory without an update. You would need to repair install or reinstall your OS however.

I think it does need an update that already exists. Why would I have to reinstall the OS?

All C:\ does is call for digital audio samples on D:\, if I lose C:\ I'll lose D:\ as well.

PS, I got the MSI MAG board for $148 US in the end.

When you change motherboard, you'll need to at least reactivate Windows, if not reinstall.

When you change the motherboard, different drivers are likely to be needed if you changed manufacturers, and Windows needs to re-scan and update registry entries and other files in order to get all of the hardware working. That usually (not always , but usually) requires at least a repair install, which keeps your files and installed software.
