Cursor stays in center of screen

This problem is on a Lenovo G70 laptop.
The cursor just stays sort of in the middle of the screen, it will move just a few inches only.
    Tried other mice, same thing.

Reset the whole pc and it's still the same.

Managed to get to device manager but can't get to the properties to remove it. Touchpad was turned off before the reset so also not responding.

Having trouble getting into safe mode.
    Thanks for any advice.

Have you tried enabling the touchpad using the Fn key?

    Try a USB mouse also.

I have been using USBs but haven't had a chance to work on it yet today.
Really wish I hadn't reset it, lost lots of stuff and it didn't help the problem.

If and when you get it working, Recuva, a free file recovery program, may help you find files you lost... pics and docs in particular.

    https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva

Worst case scenario if you can't sort out the problem you could hook up the laptop's drive as a slave to another computer and run Recuva on it.

Fink - Fn is not enabling the touchpad unless another key goes with it. Can't seem to get into safe mode and the Lenovo site is no help.

If a generic USB mouse is working, and you "reset" the operating system, you may need to download and install the Lenovo drivers for the touchpad, display, display adapter, chipset, WiFi, etc. Try that to see if you get functionality back.

Right but as of now I can't use it.
Got the touchpad to sort of work - doing all this with the arrow keys. Typed in msconfig and there was a stupid McAfee ad over the box so could not get to safe mode. Lenovo site is almost useless.

The instructions say to hit the Fn and F6 keys together. See attached pic.

Thanks, doesn't work - Could you just tell me how to get it into safe mode.
Right now when I shut down, by the button, the same screens keep coming back on - an ad and update info. Then I can't do anything at all.

a McAfee ad would tend to indicate a malware infection.

    How to enter Safe Mode:

If you do the key tap thing to get into safe mode I've sometimes found that repeatedly tapping it (2 or 3 times per second) while booting works better than just a one time press.

Well, kind of a long story but I got it up by using a Windows 10 boot disc. What happened before is that it wanted my old Outlook password - from over 8 years ago - and I didn't have it.

Set up a new user name and password and that was accepted. Gave it the Outlook information that is current. So it's like having two users now.

    No cursor problems now either.

Only problem is that I put two older programs in so now every time it starts I get "An error has occurred in the script on this page" Code 0 - do you want to continue - I just say yes.

Lost windows explorer in the "new" account but I switched back to the other and it came back.

That McAfee ad was only because the pc thought it was new and that came installed with it. Took McAfee out and am using Windows Defender.

I never did have to get into safe mode, after the mouse started working I could get to Windows troubleshooting.

Thanks for replying, this has been a strange one!

This is just another reason NOT to use a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows.

Also, a password manager like KeePass would be a way to keep track of your passwords so that you do not lose them. No one these days can remember all of them.

I agree. Microsoft likes to be in control.
