Not sure I do. So long ago that I do not recall where I downloaded the ISO and then put on the thumb-drive. Seems to recall that it was already activated but until I attempt to install, ??? I only know that I would not have downloaded if it needed a key as I only have the current W7 key.
Can only try.

Installation and activation are 2 different things. The Win10 installation should still work, but you would not be able to activate it without a Win10 license. See jdc2000's link in his previous reply.
You don't need a key to download the Win10 installation .iso. It is not activated until AFTER you install Win10.
You can run Win10 unactivated, but you lose features like Personalization:

Pretty sure I don't have activation key so guess that continuing to use W7 is the way to go.
However, i did find a web site that implied that by upgrading from W7 to W10, if writing over the existing os, then the activation number should be go-to-go. But I am not happy about copying over my perfectly working os, even though I do have an image.
Will give it some more thought and probably stay with what is currently working for me.
