Potplayer Issue
I have been using potplayer video player for quite some time. Recently, I don't hear any audio on any of my videos that I have on my laptop when potplayer opens the files. Potplayer played the audio when I clicked on them in the past. The program is up to date. What could be causing this issue?

Have you tried reinstalling the player? Do other players work ok? How about audio from other sources like youtube in your browser?

You can download a portable version of VLC and try that to see if you get audio with it.

I am having a difficult time installing any program. I tried downloading potplayer from download.com and filehippo.com. The file from download.com came up with an error stating containing a virus or unwanted software and the file from filehippo gave me a windows protected your pc popup stating Microsoft defender smartscreen prevented an unregonized app from running. I even tried installing VLC from filehippo and I received the same Microsoft defender smartscreen error message. Not sure why I am receiving all these errors.

JDC, I downloaded potplayer from your links provided and it was the same file that I already had downloaded from the other site. I received the same windows protected your pc popup stating Microsoft defender smartscreen prevented an unregonized app from running from it again. I was able to download VLC and install from the link you provided without any errors. I played a few video files that I have and the audio played fine in all of them. Any ideas why it doesn't it allow me to install potplayer without receiving that popup message?

That Microsoft message just means Microsoft does not recognize the program, not that it necessarily has malware. Microsoft does not really want you to use any non-Microsoft software.
You could scan the downloaded files with Malwarebytes as a check.

Jdc2000, those links helped. I was able to re-install potplayer and played a few videos of mine and all now have audio. Thanks for the help.

Check if the audio is accidentally muted in Potplayer itself. Also, right-click on the player, go to Audio, and make sure the right output device is selected. Sometimes it switches to a different audio device for no reason.
