I'm running with two monitors - one in my center view (monitor #1 main) and one off to my left (monitor #2). The main monitor died just the other day and I replaced it. However, when I turned on my PC, it now thinks that the left monitor is my main even though the DISPLAY settings show the center to be my main (see photo attachment). Now, the icons on the left monitor are where they should be as are the icons on the center (main) monitor; however, the right part of the task bar including hidden icons, volume control, etc appear on the left monitor and when I open any Windows setting window, etc, it opens on the left. I've switched ports and nothing.
Not sure I understand you, Fink. My attached image shows the details of the monitors: Left monitor is 2, right monitor is 1 and DISPLAY shows 2-1 as the configuration.
If I switch the monitors in DISPLAY to be 1-2 (image attached)ipiccy_image 1-2.jpg, all the icons are switched but left monitor remains primary. Interesting the IDENTIFY numbers on the monitors do not agree with the DISPLAY numbers. Also I have to move to the right on the center monitor to get onto the left monitor.
Try just disconnecting the secondary monitor, reboot, set up the one main monitor how you like it, reboot and then add the second monitor making sure it's no 2 and showing on the left in the display set up.
VirtualDr email notices are not working.
Check back regularly for responses.

Tried this, Fink. No difference.
My old monitor didn't "die" per se. It's just on it's last legs. When I turn the PC on, it flickers for about five minutes before actually turning on. It's just a matter of time until it does die; hence, the reason I bought the new one. For ****s-n-giggles I disconnected the new monitor and connected the old one. Lo and behold, the system recognized the old monitor as primary!
Something about the new monitor is causing this. Let me track down a forum for Samsung monitors and see if anyone else is having this problem.
My games were opening on the left monitor (the "primary" now) but I knew there was a way to specify which monitor to open them on. But I forgot how. So, I Googled and came across this:
"You can also change your display settings to change what monitor a game opens on."
Checked that box in my DISPLAY settings and, voila, center monitor has all that business in the right bottom corner (sorry, I don't know what it's called) and is now considered primary.
