    Resolved [RESOLVED] FastStone Image Viewer

I have FastStone Image Viewer 6.2. When I click on an image and FastStone opens the file, I can see the image, but it seems to freeze the program with the not responding message. It has been doing this for quite some time. Why does this occur?

Also, I downloaded the most current version of the program (ver 7.8) and checked for viruses, and it found a threat (PUABundler:Win32/PiriformBundler). I suppose that I shouldn't be converned about this found threat, since I am downloading the program from Faststone.org website?

that PUABundler is a possibly unwanted addon included with the software you downloaded. Not a great thing for any software company to do although it wouldn't strictly be classified as malware or a virus.. just something you may not want. This describes the issue with another popular program.. CCcleaner which many of us here use....

If you're still concerned it would be worth trying to re-install the older version that you had instead of the new one. Older versions incl the one you had can be found here:

Also FWIW I use and did try the new version of FastStone about six months ago but it did not run very well on my older computer for some reason so I went back to 6.8

Hi, Fink. Thanks for the reply. I downloaded and tried a few earlier versions of FastStone with same results. I get the not responding and freezes up the program. Is there another good image viewer that may be worth trying?

Also, I just scanned a few other files using Microsoft Defender and they give the same result in finding that PUABUndler threat. I never received this before when scanning files. It must have started after I just recently updated ccleaner. Is there a way to remove that add-on and prevent this threat from occuring?

I have not seen one. But my a/v does not see it nor does Malwarebytes which I trust even more... so I'll keep it for the time being.

As far as other image viewers Irfanview is very good and free...

I used it for a few years at work and really liked it.

Which version of Irfanview works best (32- or 64-bit)?

If your Windows operating system is 64bit then I'd install the 64bit version... & vice/versa.

Fink, I downloaded, installed, and tried Irfanview. I clicked one of my image files and it opened in 1 second, where FastStoneimage would take a few seconds to open. And, Irfanview did not freeze with the "not responding" message, either. It is the best image viewer that I have ever used. Thanks so much for recommending it. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.
