    Phone storage

    What ho one and all,

I will admit to being a smartphone Luddite / rookie.

I was given my phone by a friend who was updating; it is a Samsung Galaxy J5, so around 6 or more years old. Basic but does what I want.

I do not keep months/years of WhatsApp messages, SMS text messages etc, they are all deleted PDQ. Likewise, I have only around 20 photos in the phone.

But when I check the maintenance option, I have the two screens attached.

Basically, where is the 14.1gb of system and user data hidden? I do not have hundreds of apps installed, and would like to 'streamline' the os if possible, but have no idea what many of the listed files do.

Google Play Services is 90mb with the warning that disabling may cause app to fail, as do all options.

Touchwiz Home 50mb / Samsung Internet 38mb and 21mb (don't think I use it as I use Google) / Android Core apps (old application kept for better speed)

Seems to me that I have very little space for my own created data but don't know if this could cause a problem.

    Thanks for your advice.

    From Samsung's site:

2 GB of RAM, 16 / 32 GB of internal storage and up to 256 GB of optional expandable storage capacity with microSD support
You can add an SD Card to expand the storage.

There are also cleaner programs available for Android. Some reviews:

Many thanks; did not know such apps existed. Will install the Google one and give it a try.

Although, having read the reviews on your second link to the Google app, do not give me confidence.
