Which operating system are you using? If it's Windows 10 or 11 then the built in a/v, Windows Security, is what many here use and recommend.

There are also many free browser extensions that add protection. Malwarebytes free scanner can install an app called Browser Guard. I run the main scanner every week for added protection.

While Microsoft Defender has improved, it might not be sufficient on its own. They have tested several free antivirus programs and provide a list of options that you might consider. You can read more about their recommendations on their https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best...rus-protection

Malwarebytes AdwCleaner used in conjunction with Windows Defender and common sense works great. Moving up to Windows 11 the protection features of Defender are greatly increased (I have Win 11 Pro, Pro for Workstations and Enterprise PC's so I have no experience with Home edition). Stay away from sites with questionable content, don't open unknown email attachments and you'll be fine with Defender. uBlock Origin and Malwarebytes Browser Guard are great extensions to add for browser security, tracking and add blocking.
