Firefox bookmarks lost after PC reset
I did a "Reset this PC" and appear to have lost my firefox bookmarks. Had to re download Firefox and have followed followed the instructions to import Bookmarks as an HTML file but can't find them. I (foolishly) didn't make a backup of the Bookmarks before the 'Reset' as Firefox wasn't on the list of apps to be removed.
Does anyone know whether the bootmarks are held on the HD anywhere, I have tried searching .
thanks
Wilf
EDIT - I should say I've seen the thread from Oct/Nov 2023 but that doesn't help.

Firefox auto backup bookmark files are stored as .jsonlz4 files so You could do a search for those.
https://support.mozilla.org/mk/questions/1270016
But if the reinstall deleted the folder they were in then they could be very difficult or impossible to get back. If the search doesn't find any then you might try using a free file recovery program like Recuva to scour the hard drive for deleted files.
https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva
Also if you have other browsers installed on the computer then you can export their bookmark files as html and then use Firefox to import them.
VirtualDr email notices are not working.
Check back regularly for responses.

Thanks for getting back to me Fink, but I think I've solved it by copying the following three files from the only profile in Windows.old folder (which was (??) created for the Reset) to the profile in C:\Users folder, see below.....
extensions.json
favicons.sqlite
places.sqlite
FROM:
C:\Windows.old\Users\pc\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\px81m6ic.default
TO:
C:\Users\pc\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ku6xpbek.default-release

Note that Windows will automatically delete the Windows.old file at some point. You may want to back up that file or rename it, just in case you discover that something else is missing that you need to get back.

SalvageData should do the job. It's a free data recovery tool. Don't know about other ways, really.
