Resolved [RESOLVED] Wifi signal dropping on laptop...

I have an older laptop that I use just for surfing at night. It used to work well, but then the wifi signal started dropping and refreshing making it unusable for surfing. In the same room, I am able to use my ipad and smart tv for streaming with no problem. I bought a wifi extender, but the problem was still there. I then bought a usb wifi (in case the internal one was not working--which I disabled to use the usb.) I still have the same problem. This laptop is pretty old, but still works well except for this wifi issue. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? Thanks!

Post the laptop make and model, the make and model of the USB WiFi adapter, and what version of Windows you are using.

One test you could try would be to create a bootable USB Linux flash drive and boot to that to see if the WiFi works OK there. If it does, that would indicate a Windows or Windows driver issue.

Do you lose the signal while using the lappy or while it's sitting idle?
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

A TP-Link USB to Ethernet adapter should be decent. Check Power Management to make sure that it is not set to turn off power to USB ports or the internal WiFi adapter under any circumstances.

As I'm surfing, it drops the signal and then after a short time, it comes back on
    .

I have disabled the internal wifi adapter and double-checked (triple, etc.) to make sure it did not turn back on.

I might try the Linux download in case it's a windows issue.

    Thanks for the replies.

I know there is a problem with the internal wifi, but the external usb seems to be working now. Not sure what happened, but all good now. Thanks for the responses!
