    Question Audio Driver Multiple installations

My wife has an 2020 Lenovo ThinkBook 14s-IWLI716G512G10P laptop running Windows 10 Home 64 bit. I have to reinstall the audio driver (HdAudio.sys) at least 4 times a month thru M/S web site. I know it doesn't sound like much but after about 8 months or so, it's getting tiring. I am more familiar than most with computers but not enough to figure this one out.

Also, occasionally she has to push the on/off button twice to get it to boot. First push powers up the computer but never boots. Long push to power off, then the next push starts it right up. I suspect it is a faulty switch and I will deal with this issue later.

Any suggestions to remedy the Audio situation?

What/how/when/where are you being notified that you need to re-install the drivers?

Regarding On/Off button - make sure she gives it one good push to begin with.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Thanks for your reply. When there is no sound, I run M/S Troubleshooter which indicates driver requires update. After updating driver, all is well for a while. She uses Zoom a lot which is where you need sound.

So if she has a zoom meeting, the sound works and then it quits working? Or maybe at some later point it quits working?

Does rebooting the pc make any difference?

    More things to check:

When the sound stops working, go into Device Manager and find the driver details for the sound device that is causing the issue. Make a screen capture of the information, then "update" the driver again, and afterwards check Device Manager again to see if the driver details have changed. If they have not, then there may be some other issue. If they have, then you may want to disable driver updates for that device.

No sound after boot up. Rebooting does not help.

If you look at the Audio device(s) in Device Manager, do you see any errors? If yes, can you post a screen capture of the error messages(s)?

Problems resolved. Thank you for all your responses. I updated to Windows 11 Pro and all is well. I have not lost the sound since plus the off/on button has been working. Don't know why the off/on button has been working but I'll take it.

Thanks for the update. The Pro version of Windows is better than the Home version. Windows 11 may need some tweaks though. Let us know if you have questions.
