    VPN vs Travel Router

When I travel, I have been using a travel router at the hotels.

I understand the travel router protects the laptop as it acts like a firewall. I believe VPN protects the data as it leaves the laptop. Is this correct?

    My questions are:

If I have a travel router, is VPN needed? And vice versa, if I have VPN, is a travel router needed?

They are different...and it depends on your needs..... When in a hotel, do you shop online, make remote connections to other people's computers etc???

A VPN is a sever in some city/state/country somewhere that YOU connect to. When you then get online, everyone that in monitooring IP Addresses sees you at the VPN address. To hackers, it looks like that is where you are located. If they try to attack you, you are not really there....

Some travel routers have a VPN as part of their software. Which one are you using? Post the make and model.
