    new volume

    Hi,
    just got a new desktop with windows 11 pro

    Ive noticed there is a section.... New Volume... with 1000 gig of free space in there

    is there any way I can join this up with my local disc C which is already nearly full ?

    thanks for help or comments

    How when and where are you seeing this New Volume?

    Post the make and model of the computer. There should be a tag on it with this information unless you had one custom built for you.

    That 1 TB drive is a separate hard drive (HDD) usually installed for storage along with the smaller but much quicker solid state 240Gig (SSD). There's no way to join them. You could make more room on the SSD by moving media like pics, movies, docs etc onto the hard drive. Also uninstalling unused, unneeded large programs that often come installed on new computers. Also turn off hibernate which itself uses 16Gigs of space and is rarely ever used on a desktop computer.

    JUst got sysstem up typed in serch ... hibernate

    The file itself is called hiberfil.sys and you'll need to enable 'show all hidden files' to see it on your drive.

    In any case you can just run the cmd prompt action to turn it off and then see if there's suddenly 16 Gigs more space on the drive. If there isn't then it was already off.
