Angry HP Wirelss printer, hope this is in right spot

I just purchased a new HP DESK JET 2742e printer. Imagine my surprise when it tells me I have to pay to update drivers. Damn, what is up with that?

Is there a place i can get them without paying? I am a 75 yr. old senior now and at end of month I am broke. I HAVE TO print pics as I promised them to my very first love who is now single too. I found him after 40 yrs. he is waiting for pics impatiently.

Why of why do I have to pay for updates to my drivers, there has to be a place to get around that.

Oh the site they gave me is HP123.com

    HELP !!!!!!!

    Does the printer work?

New drivers doesn't always mean better drivers?

Yes but it won't let me download the software to my computer unless I do. No printer is plugged in and turned on, can get no further.

What is the exact address you're using for downloading drivers? HP123.com does not exist. HP does not charge for drivers so it's possible you're being hoodwinked by a rogue site.

This is the page I get looking for drivers for that printer. There's no mention of money when I try to download anything
    (windows 7).

This is the page for Windows 10

Short version... they do not charge for drivers.

GET THIS!!!! I actually phoned HP Tech support who told me it is because my computer has no security and
is 98% infected. Told me not to use the printer unless I paid them $365. for software to clean it up. That is complete B.S. or my computer would have crashed by now.

You're being conned. Whoever you spoke to is not from HP. Do not call that number again.
If they call you back hang up immediately.
Hopefully you didn't give them any personal or confidential info.
Do not install any software they've suggested either.

Try installing the drivers from one of the links I posted above.

But first... What version of Windows do you have?

Click this link and then expand "installation software etc..."

    https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers...del/2100709835

Then click "HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software"

which will download the setup file and open an instruction page.

OK.. above is for windows 10 which you answered first.

    Windows 11 is....

As they say you don't need a Microsoft acc't. just skip that when they ask for it.

This has been the dardest thing I ever saw. The last wireless printer I had I just plugged it in and my computer found it. Nothing comes with a software disc anymore and I cannot get the two together. Someone said I do not need to update drivers but how do I get the computer to recognize my printer?

After getting to the wrong site the other day I am afraid to do anything without your help.

According to the Setup guide, it's 123.hp.com, NOT HP123.com. Just enter "DESKJET 2742e" and follow the prompts.

Okay says it is easier to use your moble device and to scan code with Google Play. I have NO idea how to scan, have never used that feature on my cell.
