    HP 4050 driver

    What ho one and all,

We were given a HP Pavillion 23 (All In One)computer with W8.1 installed.

We also have an HP Laserjet 4050n printer that is still great and works just fine with XP and W7. But no amount of trying, can I get it to print with 8.1.

Part of the problem is that the printer only has old printer ports so I bought a 24 pin parallel to USB cable.

I have had some sucess but the test page is total gibberish. Uninstalled the driver and tried again. Now I have a flashing light on the printer (Ready) and a Processing Job message, but no actual printing is happening.

Have been searching the internet but to date, have not found a solution.

Any ideas what to do next?

    Very grateful and thanks,

Many thanks; I will give it a try. All my internet searching did not bring up this article.

Will also try plugging the parrallel to USB cable directly into the printer rather than via the current extension.

Maximum USB cable length (without a hub) is 14 feet. That would include your parallel to USB cable length.

Interesting; I did not know that. As the eagle flies, printer to computer distance is only around 6 feet, but with extra cable length coiled for tidiness, probably cable length is around8-10 fett.
