I've found CCleaner's duplicate file finder to be reliable. Just remember that when you're dealing with certain system type files some are meant to be on the drive in more than one place.

I've been using CCleaner for years & have never had any problems with it. However, that is not the type of file cleaner I need. I want one that would look for dupes in hundreds of mp3's, video music files, family photos, etc. I have thousands of family photos in many different folders that I know are duplicated several times over. Too large to clean by hand........

It does more than clean files. It has a specific duplicate file finder built in. Have a look.

By golly you are right fink. It does have a dupe finder. in the Tools department where Ive never looked before. Live & Learn.
Anyway, it would be nice if it would delete automatically, rather than tick each & every one for deletion. Thanks for the tip..............

You can right click one of the dupes and make a selection to multi-select files. Just be careful of your choice because the deletion is permanent.. bypasses the trash bin.

I have been running some dupes tests with CCleaner & find it to be deeply flawed.
It starts out ok & does find duplicates ok on the first go-around. However, when you
check sub folders, it will show duplicates of files that already been deleted & it will
state that a folder has been completed even tho it is full of duplicate files.

These are all .mp3 files. For example, I have a sub folder under D;/ drive.
it contains mp3 files of a known polka artist. There two sets of files of this artist.
One is in all capital letters, the other is lower case. Both sets have the same files.

When I ran CCleaner the very first time on D:/ drive, it missed this sub folder
so in trying to do it over by excluding all but the one folder, it tells me that it is complete.
Even tho I do a reset of CCleaner, it keeps telling me that the folder is complete indicating
that there are no dupes in that folder.
At first, I was beginning to think that for dupe finding, CCleaner was the "cat's meow"
but now I have reservations about it. Surely, there ought to be something out there more reliable............

Try unchecking match by name since the file names are different (upper/lower case)

Also try just checking file size.

Oh My!! I don't what is worse, this site or CCleaner. LOL. I have reset my PW numerous times
& I still cannot be remembered. I have to type in my PW, no matter how I set up my account.
Gets old after a while... Anyway, regarding CCleaner, I did as you suggested, it found 2 files
    out of dozens. Grrrr!

Gonna have to leave this project. Been at it since 4:00AM. Got to get busy with other chores.
Thanks fink, for the help. Hopefully we'll eventually get something resolved....Later.......

Are you running CCleaner repeatedly? It could be deleting the cookies that retain password info.

Actually I run CCleaner very seldom. Once in a while I will run it to clear registry clutter + also the custom clean.
