[RESOLVED] Firefox adds % Signs to any Search
Firefox did some updates a few weeks ago and ever since I get % signs with any search.
I use Yahoo for a search engine.
I've checked every setting possible and it keeps showing up this way. This is on Windows 10.
Any ideas? Thanks.

What do you mean "% signs with any search" exactly? Are you typing a word into the addressbar, and then Firefox is appending the word with %? Like you type in "car" and it searches for "car%"?
Did you try a different search engine?
What version of Firefox are you using?

Yes, for example, if I type in Chicago weather it will show Chicago%20weather.
If I type a longer search it shows %20 before each word.
I don't use the address bar, Yahoo gives a search box.
Firefox is up to date, version 97.01.
No, it doesn't happen on other search engines.
Never had this problem before Firefox updated recently.
Thanks.

The %20 is a replacement for the space character.
Note that I never search from the address bar, as it has numerous issues. Navigate to your favorite search page (Google, DuckDuckGO, Yahoo, etc., then type the search terms into that search input field. If you get the %20 and other replacements in the resulting search url, you can just ignore them. The browser is not causing that, it is the search engine itself.

I don't like searching with the address bar either.
Not sure why Yahoo search would change to do the % deal but guess it must have recently.
Thanks.

Google and DuckDuckGo do the same thing when you try to copy urls. It is a pain, but there are workarounds for the issue.

Hmm, I don't see Yahoo as a default search engine in Firefox.
Did you install a Yahoo search addon? Maybe the addon is causing the %20 issue? It doesn't sound like a FF issue if it is only happening with Yahoo.

I'm not copying urls when this happens. Just typing in a few words.
Yes, I did put in a Yahoo addon because it's one that will show a search box.

Specifically which Yahoo addon did you install?
If you just want to add Yahoo as a default search engine, you'd use the Firefox search box. (Tools > Options > Search > "Add search bar in toolbar") That doesn't add any %20 when I tried it.

It must not be an add on - can't find it in settings.
I do have Yahoo set for the default search engine.
Here's an example of what it just did

I can't figure it out.

Can you post a before (search terms entered, but not yet submitted) and after (search results returned) screen capture of what you are seeing?

It must not be an add on - can't find it in settings.
Add-ons are not in Settings. They would be in "Add-ons and themes". Click on the 3 horizontal lines button > Add-ons and themes. Yahoo would be listed in "Extensions". The add-on from the link I posted earlier is listed as "Yahoo Search" by Yahoo v1.0.0.
Again, Yahoo is not included as a default search engine for Firefox, so you must have added it somehow.
I don't think Firefox allows custom toolbars anymore. Please verify if you are using the Firefox search bar or not.
(Tools > Options > Search > "Add search bar in toolbar")

Replying to JDC2000
When I tried to get a screenshot of a search the message came up "We can't screenshot this page. This isn't a standard web page so you can't take a screenshot of it". I got the screenshot anyway Screenshot (5).png
After submitting a search it looks like this.

Under extensions I have
1 Search and new tab by Yahoo
2 Yahoo search
3 Yahoo toolbar and new tab
So yes, I did add Yahoo for a search engine.
Thanks.

Ok, the screenshot clears things up. You're using the Yahoo Start Page, not a search box or search bar. That's different from just adding Yahoo as a search engine.
You have 3 different Yahoo extensions? You only need one of them. Try disabling/removing "Yahoo search" and "Yahoo toolbar and new tab"
I think this is the one you installed for #1:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...-tab-by-yahoo/
I installed the same add-on, but I'm not getting the %20. Maybe try removing and reinstalling the add-on?

So, when you enter "post office hours" and press Enter, you get a new tab in the browser with a name on the tab that has the %20. That would be a Yahoo issue, or a browser extension issue, since a regular search engine page would not do that.
