    WINDOWS 10, HP PAVILION 9610

Hello. I am running windows 10 on an HP Pavilion 9610ca (9500 series), and have most "glitches" repaired, but can't seem to get the cd/dvd drive to register after booting. The drive functions and starts at the beginning of boot-up, but does not register in the device manager or computer folder. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Was the drive working OK with the previous version of Windows?

Is the drive seen by the BIOS?

Can you boot from a bootable CD or DVD using that drive?

That appears to be an HP laptop model, correct?

    *To answer all questions...
The drive was working on Win7, and on and off with the new Win10 install, then disappeared from the computer folder and device manager. It has worked to boot discs from startup, and the tray will open when the notebook starts. It is a notebook, and the bios doesn't have a registry for the cd/dvd drive. Thanks.

Look at this "Folder Option" and make sure Hide Empty Drives isn't enabled.

In Device Manager, click Action, select Scan for hardware changes, and then wait for Windows to find and install the CD/DVD drive.

Also, check Device Manager for any items with a yellow exclamation point.

Thanks for the advice, I re-installed win10, but still have the problem. I do see the "unknown device" and have manually updated it to a cd/dvd driver, but it still will not register after the re-start. The drive functions, it lights up, and can eject at the start of boot-up. Once fully booted, it will not register or eject.

What did you use to reinstall Windows?

Did you use a DVD or the Restore function that was on the hard drive?

Are there any error messages or numbers?

You could try the old "filters" fix. Backup your registry first.

I did a fresh install, completely formatted drive, and couldn't use the cd/dvd drive for install, but I found a way...
I have already tried the filter removal, upper and lower...no change.

Does the drive also disappear if you leave a disc in it?

VirtualDr email notices are not working.

The drive functions during boot-up, it will eject and lights up. It continues to "spin and light up" after boot-up with a disc inserted, but will not eject or register anywhere in folders or device manager - including hidden devices or unknown devices.

Where does the Unknown Device appear? Did you reinstall the HP motherboard drivers for the computer?

Does the drive have a pin hole in it so you can open it with a bent paper clip?
