What's the best data recovery software?

I can't remember what I tried last time but I got a lot of uninteligible filenames.

What's the best and what are my chances? It was a brand new Seagate Barracuda and I suddenly got 'corrupt and can't be read.'

    Thanks - rev

What is the rest of the story?
What type of files are they? Have they been on the drive for weeks and all by themselves they got corrupted? Or were you doing something to the drive?

"Recuva" has been around for a long time..... In a perfect world, you install Recuva on a different drive.... aka avoid using the bad drive at all...
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

I'm guessing you mean free apps.

You can try Recuva or PhotoRec:
    https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva
    https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

    How to use Recuva:

    PhotoRec Step By Step:

Either way, the recovered files must be written to different drive, not the "bad" drive.

A cheap docking station probably accounts for it.

A lot of audio plugs for Sonar, virtual instruments but the rest I can't remember. Four of my disks failed in the same week so I was frantically copy stuff from drive to drive and just when I almost had that drive done, it fell over. If any of the recommended softwares can even list what was there it would be a help.

    Hi,

What kind of corruption is it? Is your Seagate drive corrupted or the files? Are you receiving any error messages? If yes, then please share the screenshot of that message popup box.

    I also vote for Recuva.

Thanks Falcon Speed, that's timely because I haven't yet faced the issue.

Andrew: The message is 'drive corrupt and unreadable' or words to that effect. I don't even get a drive letter in Disk Man so I can't access any of the data. Four disks went bad in the same week because they were all bought at the same time. No sooner had I recovered one than the next one went down. Then the new replacement disk went down!
