Lost icons
What ho one and all,
Don't think this is specifically a W7 issue but it is worst this time.
Of the numerous icons on my desktop, three have vanished although th shortcut still works.
I have deleted the IconCache file and yesterday when it happened, rebooting brought them back. But today, it has not.
I have been to the icon properties and changed for a different image, and they appeared with the new icon, but when I changed it back to what I want, nothing.
Don't know what to do next; grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks and toodle pip

Which icons changed? Note that if you removed the file that the icons were in, that could explain it. The file containing the icon may not be the .exe file that the icon launches.

My Win 10 machine seems to want to hide new shortcuts or things I drag to it... I go to the Desktop folder within Windows Explorer and 99.9% of the time can find the lost item(s)..... I rename it from File.jog to Fileeeeeeeeeeeeeee.jpg and low and behold I can find it then.

Can't say I have cured the problem, but changed the icons for some that are in the Shell32 file and rebooted. then changed them back to what I want and at the moment, they seem to be stable.
Time will tell!

If you were missing the Shell32 file you would have much bigger problems.

Shell32 is fine. The 'missing' icon are ones that I have downloaded and have in a different folder. Those in Shell32 don't cover what I want for some shortcuts.
Hibernate is a good example, nothing in Shell32 seems relevant.
