    Faststone viewer

    hi,
I use faststone viewer to view my pics ... mainly because
you can tag photos as you look through them and then
hit... show tagged only .. and then move them or delete them

but just lately I ve noticed .. opening a folder full of say 100 photos
that maybe in thumbs 40 are just a big red cross

when viewed these come up as a black screen ...

you might think that they are some unusual format that the viewer
does nt recognize but no, many of them are ordinary jpg pics

any idea how to remedy this ?
also is there any other photo viewer out there with a tag option ?

    thanks for help and advice

Try opening them in Paint to see if they still look OK. They may be corrupted somehow. Check the file sizes and dates on them also to see if it looks like something modified them recently.

I've used Faststone viewer for years and for a period of time got that red X on some pics.. it didn't take long for me to realize it was always on ones that I transferred to or from a defective USB drive I used to use that was corrupting the files.

VirtualDr email notices are not working.

interesting that you should mention hard drives as the folder Im trying to look at
is actually on a hard drive..... could that have something to do with it ?

JUST mad a temp folder in downloads and copied all the 100 or so photos from the hard drive folder to the temp folder..... bingo all the pics appear on faststone... not one red cross !

Remember, if you have only 1 copy of a file, you need to make at least 1 and preferably multiple backup copies of that file if it is something you do not want to lose. Those backup copies should be on different drives or storage locations.
