    Monitor Calibration

    What ho one and all,

Not sure if this is the correct page or it should be software / hardware, or ....?

I do quite a lot of photography and under XP, was calibrating my Dell UltraSharp monitor with my ColorVision Spyder 2 Pro calibrating thing.

Under W7, it will not install and I am reluctant to buy an expensive new device.

So it occurs to me, if I calibrate the monitor with XP, can I copy the XP calibration file to W7 and when booting, that should give me the correct monitor calibration?

If so, where does W7 store the monitor calibration files?

    Thanks and toodle pip

I think it that any file with monitor calibration settings would need the calibration software to be useful.

    Correction
Once the software knows how the display is behaving, it loads correction curves into the video card (or sometimes the monitor itself), to produce a smooth tone curve and neutral greys. This step also adjusts the monitor to the gamma setting and color temperature that you want. (The sRGB standard uses gamma 2.2 and a white point of 6500K.)
