Locked out
What ho one and all,
I have an elderly neighbour who became a widower last year. He is not computer literate as his wife was essentially the operator. Since her passing, he has been unable to get into the computer because for whatever reason she had a boot password which no-one knows.
I am wondering about offering to help but not sure if I would make things worse. Internet research tells me a way to reset the password but is there a chance that I could completely 'fubar' his computer?
The alternative is to remove the CMOS battery while having a coffee then reinstall it. Apparently, this will clear the BIOS password memory and one can then reset.
Is either of these a reasonable possibility?
