What is a json file?
I use an external drive for backups. I use Acronis and File-History. In checking the disc today I find several screens of json files. I have not noticed them before but all are dated 04-11-2020 and all are in the root directory of the drive. Are the needed? Can I delete them?

json is basically a javascript file. Many programs use that, so you'd need to find out what app created the .json files. You should be able to open them with a text editor like Notepad.
