    REDUNDANCY CHECK PROBLEM?

I have this laptop hard drive that I am trying to format. Under disk manager, it shows as unknown and not initialized . So when I try to initialize it, I get this message: Data Error (cyclic Redundancy Check) I've tried a number of ways according to website articles, but nothing works. Is there any way to do this that I might not be aware of.
I have also used DiskPart under CMD & it will show the disk but thats all. Yet when I click Properties under disk management, it says : this device is working properly..
Being Unallocated with no volume, its dead ?

Have you tried all of the methods in this article?

If yes, and nothing has worked, you could try removing the driver from the laptop and connecting it to a different system to see if you can format and initialize it. If that does not work, the drive may be bad.

Thanks jdc, BTW, the drive is in a docking station, not in the laptop. Seems like most fix-it formulas require either a volume indicator or a hd letter like C,D, E F, etc of which I am unable to establish. But I'll keep trying.. Thanks for the info..............

the drive is in a docking station
That is relevant information. You may have more success if you connect the drive directly to the laptop or to a desktop computer. That would eliminate the docking station and/or USB interface as a source of trouble.

Does the drive have any data on it that you are wanting to recover? If not, then you could install it in the laptop and boot from the laptop's CD/DVD drive (assuming that it has one) or an external CD/DVD drive or USB drive, to format the hard drive.
