    W7 / Explorer

    What ho one and all.

I kinda know my way around XP and save all documents to partition D:

I am building a W7 install, and have yet to create a MyDoc partition and copy all the XP partition docs across, but .....

I notice that under User/Rex there are two folders, My Documents and a shortcut to My Documents. Why the shortcut and can I delete it?

Within My Documents, there are a number of folders that I did not create, specifically, Adobe, Adobe Scripts, Version Cue (don't even know what that is?), Adobe Stock Photo, Force field Shared Files (what is this?), and Add-in Express. I don't have Stock Photo installed with CS6, along with Freemake, Cyberlink.

Presumably, there is no reason that I should keep these rather than delete?

Microsoft changed the folder structure from Windows XP to Windows Vista/7.

    Do not delete the shortcut.

As I mentioned before, "My Documents" is a junction point, not an actual folder. They are there for legacy compatibility.

    Old Path:
    \Documents and Settings\<user>\My Documents

    New Path:
    \Users\<user>\Documents

I really do appreciate the advice your are all giving.

However, I am at a loss.

Having done something to the new 2tb hdd when I copied the W7 image to it, while it was in a caddie, I have gone back to square one.

Reformatted, created two partitions (one for the os, the other is the rest of the hdd). I put the drive into Disk 0 location, but Acronis would not find it, so it was not possible to restore the os.

Have put the drive back into the desktop caddie, formatted it again with Paragon Partition Manager and did restore the W7 image to the first partition with Acronis. Have not tried to boot from it yet, but here is what I don't understand.

I can see the drive and partitions with Paragon and with W7 Disk Management, and even with Acronis (assuming I want to make an image) but in Explorer, nothing, zilch, no show.

    I don't understand why?

    Reformatted, created two partitions
Don't create the partitions before you restore the image. Acronis will have to blow away the old partition anyway. I also mentioned that you should not create partitions before you install Windows.
