HDD size
What ho one and all,
All my SATA hdd are the same external dimensions, irrespective of their gb capacity. The 2gb that I use for photo back-ups are all around 24mm high.
Just taken delivery of a 2gb Seagate Barracuda hdd which will be come the new Disk 0 with W7 onboard, and surprised that it is only around 20mm high.
Kinda rhetorical question but, ...............How have they managed to fit greater capacity into a smaller unit? and why? Surely the available internal space is the same height as it has always been?

I'm guessing you mean TB, not GB.
Newer drives have higher density platters. Less platters means they can make the drives thinner.

GB / TB. You are absolutely correct; senior moment!
But if most desktops allow around 25mm + for the hdd, making a thinner drive only saves a bit on the actual drive material. Of course, I guess I am coming from the wrong side of the thought process as most hdd these days are in servers farms and a few mm reduction will mean fitting more in the racks.
