How are you connecting that laptop to the internet? Wired or wireless connection? Are any other devices using the same connection, and, if so, are they having similar issues? If the laptop's internal hardware and an external USB piece of hardware both had the same issues, that would point more to a router or ISP issue. More details are needed to diagnose the issue with any accuracy.

Do you lose the connection while using the laptop or after you let it sit idle for a while?

If it happens while it is sitting idle - then in device manager -> Network Adaptors -> you need to disable the POWER SAVING options.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

OK, so it is just the one laptop that is having the issue, with a wireless connection.

Can we assume that you are using Windows 10 on this laptop? If not, what version of Windows are you using. The model number of the HP laptop would also be useful, as would the make and model of the USB wireless adapter that you tried.

A known good quality USB WiFi adapter might be the way to fix the issue:

Have you tried a different browser?

When the browser says "no internet", can you still ping the Gateway IP address? To find out what your gateway address is set for, enter the command below into a Command Prompt window:

    Code:
    ipconfig /all
    Have you scanned for malware?
