LOOKS like Im in a mess,
got on the visionair site, typed in the code for my scanner...
no results came up !
Have scanners improved in the past years, should I think
of buying a new one ? any advice ?

Canon or Epson scanners would be decent replacements.
What do you use the scanner for? Documents, photos, other items?
Do you need the network connectivity?

no luck with anything
looks like Im being forced to buy new as the scanner
company refuses to release drivers for windows 10 thus making
1000s of perfectly good scanners obsolete !

Your only other option would be to use an installation of a supported version of Windows for that scanner just for scanning purposes.

had an idea to try to hook the scanner up to my windows 7 dell laptop
got the laptop fired up ..... got onto the desk top .... opened documents
then .... click .... it switches itself off !
I ve rebooted now about 10 times.... all with the same result a click and the thing is off
Anything I can do about this.... not used it in about 14 months but always seemed to get there in the past .... today Im hitting a brick wall
thanks for any advice !

If you mean the computer shuts down and not the scanner then perhaps it's a battery issue. Plug in the power supply and see what happens. Can you run other programs on the laptop?

no, I ve got the power supply on from the plug, and just trying to
get the comp up and running before I plug in the scanner ... but
get onto the desktop 10 seconds later ... click ... and it switches itself off !
I have about 10 seconds on the desktop after the long reboot.... is there
anything I can do to try and stop the cut off in that 10 seconds ?

10 seconds is not long enough for any troubleshooting. One thing you could try is to remove the battery, assuming that this is possible, and just run using the AC power supply. If the battery is bad (shorted?, etc.) this would eliminate that issue.
