    W7 or W10

    What ho one and all,

At the moment, I am using an old computer running XP Pro with no problems at all. If it was not for the fact that I would like more RAM for Photoshop use and cannot update the internet browser, I would not even consider upgrading.

The computer I am thinking of getting is a refurbished HP Z240 Workstation Tower that will come with W10. I believe that when this computer was introduced, it probably had either W7 or W8 installed.

Apart from all the hoppla regarding security fixes, virus, etc. is there any reason that W7, which I sort of understand and can live with, would not be a happy OS on this computer?

From my limited playing with W10, I find it difficult to find my way around; I just would like a simple XP style explorer, menus, etc. that shows the directory tree.

    Thanks

    Rex

Windows Classic Shell would make 10 look like you want.

Classic Shell is no longer being updated. You could use Open Shell instead.

Drivers are available for Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 for that system. I would stick with Windows 10 and change the shell as suggested.

Windows 7 has a new zero-day that likely won't be patched, at least by Microsoft.
