How can I find out what an update did?
Sometimes updates fix a problem but they're just as likely to break things that were working.
Where can I find out what an update did?
Thanks - rev

Most (Microsoft) updates have a KB number associated with them. If you use Google to search for KBxxxxxxxx, replacing the x's with the actual number, you can usually find out what they are supposed to do and whether they cause trouble. ZDNet.com also generally has a monthly article on what the cumulative security updates fix, as well as information on what the feature updates are supposed to do.

If you are looking at updates actually installed on your computer, in Control Panel, click on Programs and Features, then click on the View Installed Updates link. Each update displayed should have a KB number associated with it.
