Cat 5e RJ 11 to cat 5e RJ 45 can i use the adapter?
I have Cat 5e rj11 in house that are being used for telephone, from my understanding it's same as cat 5e rj45. Can i use the adapter or do i need to change the end of the cable?

What devices are you connecting?
RJ11 is 4 wire. RJ45 is 8 wire.

Like I said, RJ11 is only 4 wire (2 pairs). RJ45 is 8 wire (4 pairs). You'd have to check the physical cables that were run in your house. I don't see why they would run RJ45 cable (4 pair), but only use RJ11 ports.
If they are only 4 wire cables, you won't be able to reliably run ethernet over them. There used to be ethernet to phone adapters (RJ45 to RJ11), but they were pretty slow.

You now confused me. I have a house with cat 5e that was run for phone line with RJ11 connectors. I assume by you saying rj11 being only 4 wires, as long as this wire has 8 wires i assume i can rewire to RJ45? Is that correct?

CAT 5e is for RJ45 ETHERNET. While it's possible to run RJ11 connectors over CAT 5e, but you'd only be using 4 out of the 8 wires. I highly doubt whoever wired your house would use CAT 5e just for RJ11 ports. It would be a waste.

RJ11 is NOT CAT 5e. I'm not sure where you got that from.

To put it another way, if you have standard 4 wire RJ11 cable, you CANNOT use it for RJ45 plugs. You would be missing 4 wires.
