Last auto update left me a little friend!

The last time my laptop computer updated it left me an "hp templates page". It has slowed me to a crawl due to loading itself. At the bottom it says "uninstall" but when you click that it says you have to go to Chrome and click on the 3 dots in the upper right corner of the page.

Problem is there are no 3 dots on the top of the page.

Help please! My computer is Windows 10 HP laptop.

    Thank you,
    Pat

Have you tried a scan with Malwarebytes? I would try that first.

Chrome, like most software these days, changes their user interface daily to confuse people and make it look like they are providing new "features" on a regular basis. The "3 dots" may have been changed to "a green circle with an arrow".

Thanks I will try that. I do believe I did do that last week but Malwarebytes did not find it. Will attempt again. It took over 5 mins to load my bank because of the stupid thing.

Well we are back to square 1. No green circle either. Will I ever rid of this template thing?

Also while running my Malwarebytes it brought up several items all trying to load at once when I get on the computer. It says I can "sleep" them but how do I know which ones to choose? A couple are HP items so since my computer is HP I hesitate to "sleep" them.

Enter chrome://settings/ into the Chrome address bar to get to the settings page, and then remove that HP page and/or extension from Chrome.

Most of the HP software is junkware that is not really useful, and could be removed from the Startup options.

    How to disable startup programs:

No matter what I do all it takes me to is a page showing all the extensions I can add. I still need help. I also believe there are far too many other programs I do not need starting up and do not know the ones I can take out safely.

PC Decrapifier has been discontinued, but there might still be an old version available somewhere for download. It looks for programs that are not malware but are usually junk that you do not need. There may also be alternatives, like the one below:

If you are still having an issue with Chrome extensions, and you do not have a cryptic hieroglyphic symbol to click on to get to the Settings page, you can try just entering the address below into the address bar. If you do not have an address bar, then you may have it set for Full Page mode. Press F11 or Control + F11 to get rid of that. If none of that works, we will need to see a screen capture of what you are seeing to supply further help.

    Google Chrome settings page address:
    chrome://settings/

I have a laptop device. I have been using this one for more than 5 years. But I didn't update this one yet or didn't use any kind of antivirus. What do you suggest now for this? Though day by day it's getting slower. Thanks!
