    Resolved [RESOLVED] New to UEFI

I'm not at all familiar with UEFI. This isn't about either computer in my sig, but a 3rd.

I just installed Win7 on an SSD, and instead of booting to Windows, it boots to the front page of the UEFI. I then have to call up the Boot Menu to get Windows and start normally. There are definitely no hardware problems because I've been running it fine.

(No comments please about using an old OS. I have all my browsers sandboxed.)

You didn't say what motherboard you have. It sounds like the boot order needs to be changed.

For Win7, you could have used Legacy instead of UEFI boot.

Do you actually need UEFI for anything? There should be a selection to use legacy mode instead. Changing that might be a pain though.

However, it is possible that the boot device is not set properly in the BIOS setup, or that the SSD is not being recognized as bootable. When you get to the UEFI BIOS, what do you actually have to do to get it to boot Windows? Are you going to the Boot Menu and selecting something? Additional details with BIOS settings and action descriptions might help. Check the boot order and boot device selection in the BIOS settings.

I thought UEFI had some connection to the SSD. Where would I find "Legacy?"

I already said I'm totally unfamiliar with this.

I had to hit F11 to change the screen to the BOOT MENU.

Belarc says I'm using "Legacy BIOS in UEFI(secure boot not supported.)"

It has stopped booting to the UEFI (BIOS?) screen.... all by itself.

But I need some plainspoken info on this type of SSD and Mobo.

UEFI is not related to SSDs. It's basically the next generation of BIOS.

    Did you download the manual?
    https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20Pro4/#Manual

It sounds like you are using Legacy mode already. The boot menu options are on page 65. I don't see why it would boot to UEFI by default. You could try disabling Full Screen Logo and/or AddOn ROM Display boot.
